3 ways to look for a job
One would think that with access to internet these days, that searching for a job would be a piece of cake. However, as many job seekers will confirm - the internet can actually be overwhelming and leave you more confused than ever before. So we will make it easy for you and tell you exactly how you can find your next dream job...
1. Use LinkedIn
LinkedIn is arguably one of the most effective ways to find a job in the digital age. A large number of company managers and recruiters use the platform to search and contact candidates.
Make sure your LinkedIn page has:
- A professional photo of you: your photo should only be of your head, neck and the top of your shoulders. Make sure you are dressed appropriately in the photo; dress how you would for a job interview.
- Ask your LinkedIn connections for recommendations: When you click on 'View Profile', scroll down to the 'Recommendations' section and click 'Ask to be Recommended'. Here you can type in the name of a person you would like to recommend you and what you would like to be recommended for.
- Click the "Let Recruiters Know You're Open" button: Go to 'Jobs' on the main menu, then select 'Preferences'. Here you will see the 'Let Recruiters Know You're Open' button. Make sure it is enabled.
2. Build a relationship with your Recruitment Agent
Even in the age of technology, nothing beats good 'old-fashioned' relationship-building and getting to know each other face-to-face.
Your recruitment agent is a skilled match maker. It's their job to match your personal attributes, motivators and competencies to the culture of the company they are recruiting for. By meeting them in person and talking to them over the phone, they will instantly have a better understanding of who you are and what drives you, which will lead to finding you your ideal job.
You can contact our Recruitment Agency here and arrange to meet for a Skype or in-person interview.
3. Referrals
If you've been working for a few years, you should have built up a network of people you can call on. Put yourself out there by contacting your friends, family members, former colleagues, lecturers, and LinkedIn contacts to let them know you are looking for a job. It will help increase your chances of landing the job if you can tell a potential employer that you were referred by one of their employees or someone they know too.
Good luck with your job search! By knowing how to effectively look for the right job, you're half way there to job-finding success.
